Caffeine Anhydrous in SodaSlim: What 138 mg of Caffeine Means for Your Day
Caffeine anhydrous is the dry, concentrated form of the stimulant in coffee and tea. Each SodaSlim capsule lists 138 mg of it, the largest single line on the label. That is 34.5% of the 400 mg a day the FDA gives for most healthy adults, before any coffee, tea or soda you already drink.

The ingredient01
What is caffeine anhydrous in a supplement?
Caffeine anhydrous is caffeine with the water removed, sold as a fine dry powder. It is the same molecule found in coffee, tea and cola. In SodaSlim it is the first ingredient people notice, at 138 mg per capsule.
The label counts this line at 138 mg of 658 mg listed, or 21.0% of the capsule. It is the only line the label flags in plain words: "Contains Caffeine." SodaSlim is a capsule, not a drink, so no taste warns you.
Pure caffeine powder sold in bulk is a different thing. The FDA warns that one teaspoon equals about 28 cups of coffee and has linked it to deaths (FDA, Warning about pure and highly concentrated caffeine). A capsule that prints 138 mg is a measured amount, not loose powder.
| Name on the label | Caffeine Anhydrous |
|---|---|
| What it is | Caffeine in its dry, concentrated form, the same stimulant found in coffee, tea and cola |
| Per 1-capsule serving | 138 mg |
| Also printed or worked out | 138 mg, 34.5% of the FDA's 400 mg a day guide |
| % Daily Value | Not established (**) |
| Amount used in research | No weight-loss dose verified. The FDA's guide for most healthy adults is up to 400 mg a day from all sources |
| Strength of evidence | Small: short trials, mostly of mixed products |
| Marketed or traditional use | A stimulant used for alertness; marketed here for energy and metabolism. |
| Main caution | 138 mg is 34.5% of the 400 mg guide before any coffee, tea or soda. Fast heartbeat, jitters, poor sleep and higher blood pressure are listed effects of too much. |
Your daily total02
How much is 138 mg of caffeine compared with coffee, tea and soda?
138 mg of caffeine is about the middle of one 12 fl oz cup of brewed coffee. The FDA lists brewed coffee at 113 to 247 mg for that size (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much). So one capsule can stand in for roughly one cup.
The FDA says 400 mg a day is an amount not generally linked to negative effects in most healthy adults (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much). Mayo Clinic, MedlinePlus and the Cleveland Clinic give the same figure (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much) (MedlinePlus, Caffeine) (Cleveland Clinic, Caffeine overdose). The arithmetic is simple: 400 minus 138 leaves 262 mg for everything else you have that day.
| Source | Caffeine | Compared with 138 mg |
|---|---|---|
| Brewed coffee | 113 to 247 mg | Capsule sits inside this range |
| Energy drink | 41 to 246 mg | Can be above or below |
| Caffeinated soda | 23 to 83 mg | Less than the capsule |
| SodaSlim, 1 capsule | 138 mg (label) | 34.5% of 400 mg |
What studies show03
Does a caffeine anhydrous supplement help with weight loss?
Caffeine has been studied for weight, and the results are small. No study tested the SodaSlim capsule, so none can say what 138 mg inside this mix would do for you.
The NIH describes caffeine as something that may help with a little weight loss, and adds that the body builds tolerance (NIH ODS, Weight loss supplements (consumers)). Its fact sheet for professionals says the trials were short and often used mixed products (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss (health professionals)). A review of 94 studies found a small rise in lab markers of fat metabolism. It measured short-term markers, not body weight or fat loss, and the caffeine dose did not change the size of the effect (Meta-analysis, Does caffeine increase fat metabolism?).
The sales page says caffeine "immediately awakens the metabolism" (SodaSlim sales page). We quote that line to test it. The sources we found describe caffeine as a stimulant and show no weight outcome for that wording.

Who should be careful with 138 mg of caffeine in a capsule?
Anyone who is pregnant, nursing, under 18, sensitive to caffeine or on a medicine should ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking SodaSlim. The label itself says to consult a physician first with a medication or a medical condition.
Too much caffeine can cause a fast heart rate, high blood pressure, poor sleep, anxiety, jitters and headache (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much). Seizures can occur with rapid intake of about 1,200 mg (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much). Stopping suddenly can bring a few days of headache and irritability (MedlinePlus, Caffeine).
Pregnancy and nursing
The label says not to use it. The FDA, Mayo Clinic and MedlinePlus say to talk with a provider about limiting caffeine (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much) (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much) (MedlinePlus, Caffeine).
Heart, pressure and anxiety
Caffeine raises blood pressure and can speed the heart. People with an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure or anxiety should check with a provider first (MedlinePlus, Caffeine).
Medicines and other stimulants
Caffeine can affect some medicines, and mixing it with ephedrine-containing medicine may raise blood pressure and seizure risk (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much). Ask a pharmacist about your own list.
A supplement is not a medicine. Do not stop or change a prescription because of SodaSlim. Chest pain, fainting or a racing heart need care now. For a suspected overdose, call 911 or Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 (Cleveland Clinic, Caffeine overdose).
Hidden caffeine05
Do the other SodaSlim ingredients add more caffeine?
Yes, a little. The 138 mg is the printed caffeine line, but two plant extracts in the capsule also contain some, so your true total is higher than the label's headline number.
The green tea extract is labeled "<3% caffeine." On 130 mg of extract that means under 3.9 mg. The green coffee bean extract also contains caffeine, and the label does not say how much (NIH ODS, Weight loss supplements (consumers)). A fair way to say it: 138 mg plus a little more that is not printed.
The extras are small next to the 262 mg left in the FDA's guide. The bigger risk is stacking the capsule on two or three strong coffees. Count your drinks on the caffeine content page and see each line on the supplement facts page.
FAQ06
SodaSlim questions people ask
What is caffeine anhydrous?
Caffeine anhydrous is caffeine with the water removed, a dry white powder. It is the same stimulant found in coffee, tea and cola. SodaSlim lists 138 mg of it per capsule, and the label says Contains Caffeine.
Is 138 mg of caffeine a lot for one capsule?
It is a moderate amount, roughly one cup of brewed coffee. The FDA lists 113 to 247 mg for a 12 fl oz cup (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much). It becomes a lot when it stacks on other coffee, tea or energy drinks across the day.
Can I drink coffee on the days I take SodaSlim?
You can, but count it. The capsule uses 138 mg of the 400 mg guide, leaving 262 mg (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much). Two large coffees can use that up, and some people feel jittery well before 400 mg.
Can caffeine anhydrous be dangerous?
In large amounts, yes. Rapid intake near 1,200 mg can cause seizures (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much), and bulk pure powder has been linked to deaths (FDA, Warning about pure and highly concentrated caffeine). A capsule with a printed 138 mg is far below those levels, but your health and medicines still matter.
Is the caffeine in SodaSlim safe during pregnancy?
The label says not for pregnant or nursing women. U.S. sources say to talk to a provider about limiting caffeine (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much) (MedlinePlus, Caffeine). A European figure of 200 mg a day exists (EUFIC, EFSA opinion on the safety of caffeine), but it is not an FDA number.
Does the green tea extract in SodaSlim add caffeine?
A little. The label says under 3% caffeine in the green tea extract, which is under 3.9 mg in 130 mg. The green coffee extract also holds caffeine, and the label does not print how much.
