Raspberry Ketone Supplement: Weight Loss Claims and Safety for the 130 mg in SodaSlim

Quick answer

Raspberry ketone is a flavor compound that supplements sell for weight management. Each SodaSlim capsule lists 130 mg, with no standardization printed. Reliable human research is lacking, the one small trial tested a mixed product, and the NIH says its safety is not studied enough.

The ingredient01

What is a raspberry ketone supplement?

Raspberry ketone is a compound linked to the scent of red raspberries. In a supplement it is sold as a capsule ingredient, and in SodaSlim it appears as a single line of 130 mg with no standardization and no named source.

It makes up 19.8% of the 658 mg listed in a capsule, the same share as the green coffee, garcinia and green tea lines. The label does not say where this ketone comes from, so treat the name as a compound, not a fruit.

Of the five lines, this is the one with the least research behind it. The sources we found describe its human data as lacking, and no daily study dose could be verified. For that reason we draw no comparison bar for it.

Main cautionSafety is not established in people. Raspberries hold only trace amounts, so the label's 130 mg is not a raspberry-sized amount.

What studies show02

Does raspberry ketone help with weight loss?

No source we found shows that it does. A 2021 review says reliable human research on raspberry ketone is lacking, and most of the supporting work was done in cells and rodents (Rao 2021, Raspberry ketone review).

The NIH agrees. Its professional sheet says raspberry ketone has only been studied in combinations and the evidence is insufficient (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss (health professionals)). Its consumer sheet says the effect on weight is unknown and its safety has not been studied enough (NIH ODS, Weight loss supplements (consumers)).

Sellers lean on one small trial. Mayo Clinic describes it: 70 adults with obesity, an 8-week diet and exercise program, 45 finishers. The supplement group lost about 1.9 kg and the placebo group 0.4 kg. But the product also contained caffeine, bitter orange, ginger and garlic root extract, so no one can credit the raspberry ketone (Mayo Clinic, Dietary supplements for weight loss). Mayo calls the trial too small and short.

Seller claims03

Does raspberry ketone reduce body fat, as the sales page says?

No. The sales page says raspberry ketone brings an "accelerated reduction in body fat" (SodaSlim sales page), and the sources we found do not back that wording in people. We quote it only to test it.

The ideas behind such claims often come from lab work. The 2021 review notes the mechanism is largely unknown (Rao 2021, Raspberry ketone review). A result in cells does not become a result in a person, and the FTC says ingredient research does not carry over to a finished product by default (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).

The label's own front lines end with an asterisk and the FDA statement that they were not evaluated. The FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Questions and answers on dietary supplements). Compare all three claims with the evidence on the benefits page.

Safety04

Is raspberry ketone safe to take?

Its safety has not been established. The 2021 review says it is not yet shown to be safe, and it flags that supplements are sold at very high doses (Rao 2021, Raspberry ketone review).

That is not the same as saying it is harmful. It means nobody has enough human data to say. With 130 mg per capsule next to 138 mg of caffeine and three plant extracts, the overall mix needs a doctor's view too.

Ask first if

you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, or take a regular medicine. The label says to consult a physician first.

Watch for

a racing heart, chest pain, fainting, dark urine or yellow skin or eyes. Stop the capsules and get care.

Keep doing

take prescribed medicine as directed. A supplement is not a medicine.

The FDA also warns that some weight-loss products hide drug ingredients (FDA, Tainted weight loss products). Nothing we found says SodaSlim does, and the label lists no drug. It is still a reason to buy only from the official order route.

The rest of the label05

How does raspberry ketone compare with the other SodaSlim ingredients?

It has the thinnest evidence of the five. Caffeine has a published safety guide, green tea has liver data, and green coffee and garcinia each have a pooled review, however weak.

Raspberry ketone has one mixed-product trial and a review that calls the human research lacking. If a claim matters to you, ask what trial backs it, at what dose, in which product. For this line the answer today is none that we could confirm.

658 mgof listed ingredients in one capsule, every amount printed

Share by printed weight. Four lines are 130 mg and caffeine anhydrous is 138 mg, so no single ingredient dominates the capsule. The capsule shell is extra.

FAQ06

SodaSlim questions people ask

What is raspberry ketone?

Raspberry ketone is a compound tied to raspberry scent, sold in supplements for weight management. SodaSlim lists 130 mg per capsule, with no standardization printed and no source named.

Does raspberry ketone work for fat loss?

Reliable human research is lacking (Rao 2021, Raspberry ketone review), and the NIH calls the evidence insufficient (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss (health professionals)). The one trial sellers cite tested a mixed product, so its result cannot be credited to raspberry ketone (Mayo Clinic, Dietary supplements for weight loss).

Is raspberry ketone the same as eating raspberries?

No. The supplement is a single isolated compound at 130 mg per capsule. Eating raspberries gives you whole fruit. The label gives no figure that links the capsule to any amount of fruit.

Is raspberry ketone safe in supplements?

Safety is not established. The 2021 review notes supplements are sold at very high doses (Rao 2021, Raspberry ketone review), and the NIH says safety has not been studied enough (NIH ODS, Weight loss supplements (consumers)). Ask a doctor first.

How much raspberry ketone is in SodaSlim?

130 mg per capsule, one capsule a day, which is 19.8% of the 658 mg listed. No verified study dose exists, so we cannot say if that is low or high.

Why do the numbers in the raspberry ketone trial not prove anything?

The product in the trial also had caffeine, bitter orange, ginger and garlic root extract, and everyone was dieting (Mayo Clinic, Dietary supplements for weight loss). With so many moving parts, the cause of any loss is unknowable.

Can raspberry ketone interact with medicines?

We found no source that lists interactions, and no source that rules them out. Ask your pharmacist, and keep taking prescribed medicine as directed.
