Supplement Drug Interactions: What to Check Before You Add Caffeine, Green Tea or Garcinia to Your Medicines
Supplement drug interactions are real, and a capsule like SodaSlim has several places to check. One capsule holds 138 mg of caffeine, about 34.5% of the FDA's 400 mg daily guide, plus green tea extract and garcinia. The label says to see a physician first if you take a medicine, and not to use it while pregnant or nursing.

The short version01
Can you take SodaSlim with your medicines?
Maybe, but only your doctor or pharmacist can say. The label of SodaSlim says to consult a physician before use, "especially if you are taking a medication or have a medical condition."
That line matters because the capsule holds five ingredients, and each can meet a medicine in a different way. No study has tested the five together. The FDA advises telling all your providers about every supplement you take (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements: What You Need to Know).
A supplement is not a substitute for a medicine. Never stop or change a dose because you started a capsule. If you want to stop a medicine, that is a talk with your prescriber.

Interactions02
How do supplement drug interactions happen?
A supplement interaction happens when a supplement changes how a medicine acts, or when the two push the body in the same direction. Either can make a medicine weaker, stronger or harder on the heart or liver.
The sources name only some pairs. Where they stay silent, we do not guess. The FDA adds that side effects are most likely at high doses, in place of prescribed medicine, or when many supplements are combined (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements: What You Need to Know).
The table lists what the sources say for each line of the SodaSlim label. Bring it to your pharmacist.
| Label line (per capsule) | Named in the sources | Ask about |
|---|---|---|
| Caffeine anhydrous, 138 mg | Ephedrine-containing medicine may raise blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and seizure risk (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much) | Blood pressure, heart rhythm and stimulant medicines |
| Green tea extract, 130 mg | Nadolol, verapamil, statins, tamoxifen and irinotecan (MSK, Green tea (About Herbs)) | Heart, cholesterol and cancer medicines; any liver condition |
| Garcinia extract, 130 mg | Drugs that affect the liver or serotonin (NCCIH, Garcinia cambogia) | Mood medicines and anything processed by the liver |
| Green coffee bean extract, 130 mg | Contains caffeine that the label does not count (NIH ODS, Weight loss supplements (consumers)) | The same list as caffeine |
| Raspberry ketone, 130 mg | Safety not established in people (Rao 2021, Raspberry ketone review) | Tell the pharmacist it is on the label |
For MAOIs, diabetes medicine and blood pressure medicine, the sources we read give no specific rule for these ingredients. The safe step is the plain one: ask your pharmacist.
Caffeine03
How does caffeine interact with medication?
Caffeine can change how some medicines and supplements behave, so Mayo Clinic tells readers to ask a clinician or pharmacist (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much). SodaSlim carries 138 mg in each capsule, and the label says "Contains Caffeine."
The arithmetic is simple. The FDA gives 400 mg a day as an amount not generally linked to negative effects for most healthy adults (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much). One capsule uses 34.5% of that before your first coffee. The green coffee and green tea lines add a little more that the label does not fully print, so the true total is "138 mg plus a little more".
Some conditions and medicines raise sensitivity to caffeine (Cleveland Clinic, Caffeine overdose). MedlinePlus says that people with an arrhythmia or high blood pressure should check with a provider, because caffeine raises blood pressure and can quicken the heartbeat (MedlinePlus, Caffeine). Combining caffeine with other stimulants raises the risk (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss (health professionals)).
On levothyroxine? MedlinePlus says to tell your doctor and pharmacist about any supplement, as doses may need adjusting. It does not mention caffeine, so we claim nothing more (MedlinePlus, Levothyroxine).
Green tea and garcinia04
What are the green tea extract medication interactions?
Memorial Sloan Kettering lists five medicines with a known or reported link to green tea: nadolol, verapamil, statins, tamoxifen and irinotecan (MSK, Green tea (About Herbs)). For nadolol, levels fell and one heart rhythm problem returned. Anyone on those medicines should not guess.
The liver is the second worry. Green tea extract has been linked to liver injury, unlike the brewed drink (NCCIH, Green tea). MSK's advice, from the USP, is not to use it with a liver problem (MSK, Green tea (About Herbs)). A medicine that is hard on the liver plus an extract that can be hard on it is a pair to review with a professional.
Garcinia adds its own flag. NCCIH reports possible interactions with drugs that affect the liver or serotonin, and numerous liver reports, several severe (NCCIH, Garcinia cambogia). People on antidepressants or other mood medicine should show the pharmacist the garcinia line.
NCCIH and Mayo Clinic both note that "natural" does not necessarily mean safe (NCCIH, Weight Control and Dietary Supplements) (Mayo Clinic, Dietary supplements for weight loss). Our liver warning signs guide covers the symptoms to watch.

Are supplements with caffeine safe while pregnant?
The SodaSlim label says no. It reads "Not for use by individuals under the age of 18 or pregnant or nursing mothers." That ends the question for this product.
The wider caffeine question has no single number in US sources. The FDA, Mayo Clinic and MedlinePlus say to talk to a provider about limiting caffeine while pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, and give no figure (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much) (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much) (MedlinePlus, Caffeine). MedlinePlus adds that caffeine passes through the placenta (MedlinePlus, Caffeine).
The European Food Safety Authority does give a number: regular intake up to 200 mg a day from all sources is considered safe for the fetus or infant (EUFIC, EFSA opinion on the safety of caffeine). That is an EFSA figure, not an FDA figure. For comparison, one SodaSlim capsule is 138 mg, which is 69% of 200 mg before any tea, coffee or cola.
Before you start06
What should you ask your pharmacist or doctor?
Bring the bottle and ask five things. A pharmacist can check your medicine list in minutes, and it costs nothing to ask.

FAQ07
SodaSlim questions people ask
Does SodaSlim interact with medications?
No source tested SodaSlim itself, so no interaction list exists. Its parts have known flags: green tea extract with nadolol, verapamil, statins, tamoxifen and irinotecan (MSK, Green tea (About Herbs)), garcinia with liver or serotonin drugs (NCCIH, Garcinia cambogia), and caffeine with some medicines (Mayo Clinic, Caffeine: how much is too much). Ask your pharmacist.
Can I take caffeine pills while pregnant?
Not SodaSlim. Its label says it is not for pregnant or nursing mothers. For caffeine in general, US sources say to talk to a provider (FDA, Spilling the beans: how much caffeine is too much), and EFSA gives 200 mg a day from all sources (EUFIC, EFSA opinion on the safety of caffeine).
Does green tea extract interact with statins?
Memorial Sloan Kettering lists statins among medicines that green tea can interact with, along with nadolol, verapamil, tamoxifen and irinotecan (MSK, Green tea (About Herbs)). SodaSlim has 130 mg of green tea extract per capsule, so tell your pharmacist if you take a statin.
Can supplements hide drugs that are not on the label?
Yes, in some products. The FDA has found weight-loss products with hidden ingredients, and its list covers only a small fraction of them (FDA, Tainted weight loss products). Nothing we found says this of SodaSlim. Check the safety seal and buy from the official checkout.
